India needs 381 runs on day 5 to clinch a record breaking victory against England

XtraTime Web Desk – A decent day 4 at Chepauk put India in a decent place to go for the win on day 5.

After an average start to their first innings, Washington Sundar handled India’s batting and scored a great innings of 85 runs and remained not out. Others couldn’t support him well and thus India were all out for 337 runs. Dom Bess picked 4 for England while Anderson, Archer and Leach picked 2 each. India were behind by more than 200 runs but Root and company didn’t impose follow on and Burns and Sibley came to bat.

On the first ball of second innings, Ashwin picked Burns’ wicket. This happened for the first time in 114 years when a bowler picked up a wicket in the first ball of an innings.

That set the tone. Ashwin picked up u wickets, 28th fifer of his career to dismiss England for 178 runs. Root made 40 runs and Ollie Pope made 28 runs. Their partnership helped England reach to that figure as India needed 420 to win the first test.

Rohit Sharma once again lost his wicket early as Jack Leach dismissed him for 11. Shubman Gill is batting on 15 and Cheteshwar Pujara is batting on 12 to end the day as India needs 381 runs on day 5 to win the first test at Chepauk.
