Kolkata: The Indian team will be having a preparatory camp before embarking on a tough tour to South Africa later this year. The camp will be held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The length and timing of the camp will be decided by the coach and the team management in consultation with the selectors.The team for the South Africa series will be picked after the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
“There will be a preparatory camp ahead of the South Africa series. The views of the coach will be important,” said BCCI secretary Amitabh to the reporters here.
BCCI secretary Amitabh on Saturday hit back at the board treasurer Anirudh Chaudhury for circulating wrong informations in the media about him and acting president CK Khanna. The BCCI treasurer on Friday has thrown a few volleys aimed at CK Khanna and Amitabh Choudhury, by writing a letter asking them to share the Future Tours Programme (FTP) plans ahead of the much talked about SGM on December 1.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary confirmed to the reporters here that he is yet to circulate any notice about the Special General Meeting.
“Nobody is in the dark. All members of the BCCI will be sent a notice of the Special General Meeting along with relevant papers of on each of the agenda points. As far as writing letters is concerned that’s a guarantee constitution gives to every citizen of India. Let them exercise that right. So far as the thought of people not being kept in the loop is concerned, it’s not a fact because papers cannot be circulated in a vacuum. Once agenda has been specified, supporting papers on each of the agenda points will be circulated,” said the BCCI secretary.
It has been reported that in the General Body Meeting, India’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) from 2019 to 2023 will be discussed.
As far as the SGM is concerned one of the items to be discussed is the World Championship of Test matches. Recently the ICC has given a green light to a nine-team Test league and a 13-team ODI league aimed at bringing context and meaning to bilateral cricket due to start in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
“In any world competition or championship if say 20 teams play, it is not possible to play each team against each other. The problem in not having a series between India and Pakistan is something which affects international cricket to a large extent. So nothing can really be planned out factoring the consequences on that situation. That’s being looked after. As I said it is not necessary to play each and every team in a championship,” said Amitabh Choudhury.
Recently WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) has rejected BCCI’s stand on the issue of dope testing of Indian cricketers.
Talking about the developments, “This is a situation that has to be dealt with both the authorities. But then the BCCI has its own points of view which are based on substantial grounds. So it’s a situation we have to handle. Both WADA and Government of India are institutions and authorities. So if they have felt in a certain manner it has to be responded. We just cannot keep on disagreeing.”
