“I still feel I can contribute in the shortest format”: Shikhar Dhawan on India future

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan believes he can still contribute for India in the shortest format. The experienced opener has been in and out of the Indian team in white ball format especially T20 format. The 36 years old cricketer had yet another decent outing in the ongoing IPL 2022 season, scoring 421 runs for Punjab Kings. The left hander has scored over 400 runs in consecutive five seasons speaking volumes of his consistency.

“Though I remain an integral part of the team, I still feel that I can contribute in the shortest format because of my experience. I have been quite doing well in the T20 format. Whatever role I have been given I have done well. I have managed to stay consistent in the formats that I am playing, whether it is the IPL or at the domestic level and I am enjoying it,” Dhawan said to NDTV.

Despite doing well Dhawan found himself not getting picked for the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in UAE last year. The cricketer from Delhi will be back again in the Indian T20 side for the upcoming five match series against South Africa at home starting from June 9. In all probability he will be leading the side in the absence of few senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Rishabh Pant.
