‘I feel he should…’: Neeraj Chopra’s friendly advice for Jasprit Bumrah to increase his pace

Xtra Time Web Desk: Jasprit Bumrah has been one of India’s most reliable performers across cricket formats, utilizing his distinctive action and lethal toe-crushing yorkers to trouble opposition batters. Unfortunately, recent injuries, particularly a back injury, led to Bumrah missing crucial tournaments such as the T20 World Cup 2022 and the World Test Championship Final 2023. But ever since he made a comeback from Ireland series, Bumrah has never looked back. He was one of the key performers for Team India during the recemtly concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Among his numerous fans, Bumrah is also favourite of Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. Speaking at the Indian Express’ Idea Exchange, Neeraj had a friendly piece of advice for his favourite Indian pacer so that he can improve his pace.

“I like Jasprit Bumrah, I find his action unique,” Neeraj said during the Indian Express’ Idea Exchange programme.

He added, “I feel he should lengthen his run-up to add more pace.”

“As a javelin thrower, we often discuss how bowlers can increase their pace if they start their run-up from a little further back. I like Bumrah’s style,” said Neeraj.

Despite the injury setbacks, Bumrah made a remarkable comeback during the Ireland tour just before the World Cup, showcasing his usual bowling prowess in the mega tournament.

Neeraj was at the Narendra Modi Stadium on November 19 to watch the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia. Unfortunately, Rohit Sharma and his boys were outplayed by Australia in the final.
