Kolkata: A big blow for Sanjoy Sen’s Mohun Bagan as the Green and Maroon will miss their star goalkeeper Debjit Majumder in their must win game against Bengaluru FC. The ace goalkeeper picked up an injury on his knee against Mumbai FC today and was taken off in the first half. Though Shilton Paul played an extremely good game today between the sticks, but Debjit has been an instrumental figure for the Mariners for the last three seasons and Bagan will surely miss him against Albert Roca’s men.

After a disappointing 2-2 draw against Mumbai, coach Sanjoy Sen told the media in the post match press conference, “Debjit has an injury and will not be travelling with us tomorrow. We are not sure about the seriousness of that injury and the medical team is looking after this.”

The Bagan coach also mentioned, “After this draw, the six of our next seven games have become must win for us. We need to win the Bengaluru FC game at any cost.” Mohun Bagan’s star Haitian Sony Norde too echoed his coach as he said, “All our remaining matches have now become finals for us. We deserved to win today but at the end of the day, we are not unhappy with a point. The forwards committed a lot of mistakes and we need to be cautious about it from the next game.”

The Green and Maroon brigade lost two vital points today, and the Bagan coach clarified, “I still have no answer of that span of 10 minutes which costed us two points today. Hopefully my players will learn from their mistakes and will put up a much better performance against Bengaluru FC.” He seemed extremely pleased with the second half performance of his side as he said, “My team played outstanding football in the second half and created a lot of moves. We used the width of the ground to a good effect through some great wing play and I believe the last 45 minutes will act like oxygen for us ahead of the next game.”

The Bagan gaffer was really pleased with Sony Norde’s inspirational show, but added that his team lost some easy sitters to drop a victory. On the other hand, Mumbai FC coach Santosh Kashyap was furious with the referring. He said, “We could have easily won this game with the way we played. But the referring standard was really poor. The standard is going bad to worse in every game. Federation should look into it.”

Hero of the Match Sony Norde hailed captain Katsumi Yusa and said that the Japanese was the deserving player to get the award today. The superstar Haitian also told his teammates that he himself would award Rs.35 lac to his team if the club manages to win the league from here on.
