Have no plans to give up test cricket, says Jos Buttler

Xtra Time Web Desk: England Wicketkeeper and batter Jos Buttler whose performance in the Ashes 2021-22 nevertheless was low-key says that he has no plan to step down from test cricket and that he would keep playing for all three formats. Buttler who faced a terrible dismissal in the boxing day test in Melbourne is also dismayed at Proteas Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock’s hastening decision of giving up test cricket with immediate effect.

Buttler who is currently one of the best white ball batter has been able to achieve an average of 19.20 in three test matches against Australia. He had also dropped catches behind the stumps in Adelaide, some of which were crucial.

“It’s certainly my ambition. I don’t think I’d have put as much into it as I have done if it wasn’t,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.“I have fantastic family support they’re very supportive of me and my career and make a lot of sacrifices for that. That’s one thing that gives you a lot of motivation and drive to try to make it all worth it. It’s certainly maintained my drive and ambition to try and play ,at the moment, I feel I’ve got that support, and I’m in a place where I want to try to make it work. All I’m focusing on at the moment is turning up in Sydney and practicing well.”

The batter expressed his disappointment over as well as respected De Kock’s decision to step down from Test Cricket. They share similarities- both are Wicketkeeper-batter, both have established themselves at a very young in limited over games.

“That’s (Test retirement) Quinton’s own personal situation, but as a fan of cricket and a huge fan of his, I’m disappointed that he’s at that stage,” said the 31-year-old Buttler.

“I love watching him bat, keep wicket and play Test cricket. The world of cricket will miss him in that format. But I guess I commend him for making a decision that’s right for him”, added Buttler

Australia took a marauding 3-0 lead in the ongoing Ashes with thumping victories in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane. However, Buttler asserted that England has still the confidence to avoid a whitewash.
