Sabyasachi Bagchi, Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday broke his silence at last on the recent Kumble-Kohli rift. Ganguly, who is also the Chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee criticised the BCCI for its stance on the entire episode.

According to Ganguly, “The matter should have been handled a lot better by the Board officials.”

The rift between Kumble and Kohli was brought out in open daylight following which the former leg spinner acrimoniously decided not to extend his contract as coach of the Indian team. With Shastri finally deciding to throw his hat in the ring, it is very likely that Indian cricket can see the return of Kohli-Shastri combination.

Ganguly did not lose an opportunity though to pinch Shastri. Talking to the scribes at the CAB, Sourav said, “Everyone has got a right to apply for the post. Even I can also apply for the post, provided I am no more an administrator.”

The former India Sourav Ganguly on Tuesday was drafted in a seven member committee formed by the BCCI to analyse the implementation of Lodha reforms. The seven member committee comprises of Rajiv Shukla, Sourav Ganguly, TC Mathew, Naba Bhattacharjee, Jay Shah, Anirudh Chaudhary and Amitabh Chaudhary. The committee will be headed by IPL Governing Council chairman Rajiv Shukla.

The seven member committee was formed today in a meeting held in Mumbai. The committee is likely to hold its first meeting on June 30. The committee will identify critical points in implementation of Lodha Committee reforms.

On being asked about his role in the committee, Ganguly said, “We really do not know much about our work. It will only get clear once we meet with each other in a few days time.”

Meanwhile the Cricket Association of Bengal organised an emergent meeting with its members to discuss on the matters pertaining to the Special General Meeting of BCCI. The members discussed all the key points recommended by the Lodha Commission like the issue of one state one vote, cooling off period, age bar of 70 years, number of members in selection committee etc. It was decided that an emergent working committee meeting of thge association will take place on July 1 to discuss further on the issue. The meeting was attended by CAB’s legal counsel Usha Nath Banerjee.
