Former Proteas captain misses Cricket South Africa Central Contracts for 2021-22

Cricket South Africa on Tuesday released the new list of central contracted cricketers for 2021-22 season.

Xtra Time Web Desk: Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis is the big name missing in the new National Contracts list released by Cricket South Africa on Tuesday. The new contracts are for the 2021-22 season.

The Chennai Super Kings cricketer failed to make it to the list. The development comes days after Faf du Plessis took retirement from Test cricket to focus on T20 World Cup. Du Plessis will be seen in action for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL 2021 season.

Hard hitting wicket keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen is the only addition to the previous list of central contracted cricketers.

“Time is right to walk into a new chapter. It has been an honour to play for my country in all the formats of the game, but the time has come for me to retire from Test cricket,” he had said earlier.

He added, “The next two years are ICC T20 World Cup years. Because of this, my focus is shifting to this format and I want to play as much of it as possible around the world so that I can be the best player I can possibly be.”
