Qatar created a piece of football history by earning their first-ever point in FIFA World Cup history after a dramatic 1-1 draw against Switzerland, thanks to a last-gasp equaliser.

Based on the flow of the game, the result hardly reflected Switzerland's dominance. The Swiss controlled possession for long periods, created numerous scoring opportunities, and looked destined for victory. However, their inability to convert chances ultimately proved costly, allowing Qatar to snatch a valuable point in injury time.

The draw marks a historic milestone for Qatar. After losing all three of their group-stage matches on home soil during the previous World Cup, the Gulf nation finally secured its first point on football's biggest stage. What they could not achieve in front of their home fans, they accomplished in San Francisco.

Switzerland started the match brightly and dictated proceedings from the opening whistle. Their pressure paid off in the first half when Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada fouled Remo Freuler inside the penalty area. The referee immediately pointed to the spot, and Breel Embolo calmly converted the penalty to give Switzerland a deserved lead.

The Swiss continued to create opportunities but failed to extend their advantage. Their intensity dropped noticeably after the break, and those missed chances eventually came back to haunt them.

With the match deep into injury time, Qatar found their moment of glory. Boualem Khoukhi rose highest inside the box to meet a cross with a powerful header, sending the ball into the net and sparking celebrations among the Qatari players and supporters. The towering header drew comparisons to the trademark aerial prowess of former Scotland striker Duncan Ferguson.

Moments later, the referee blew the final whistle, confirming a memorable result for Qatar. The draw leaves all four teams in the group level on one point, setting up an intriguing battle for qualification in the remaining matches.

For Qatar, however, the night will be remembered for something far greater — the nation's first-ever point in World Cup history.
