Cristiano Ronaldo hits back at critics ahead of his final World Cup

Age is just a number for Cristiano Ronaldo. Even at 41, the Portuguese superstar continues to defy time and silence his critics with his performances on the pitch. Ahead of what is expected to be the final FIFA World Cup of his illustrious career, Ronaldo delivered a strong response to those questioning his physical condition.

"Physically, I'm absolutely fine. Haven't you watched my matches?" the Portugal captain said confidently.

Portugal will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Congo before facing Uzbekistan and Colombia in the group stage. Ronaldo made it clear that he does not see himself as an ageing legend nearing the end, but rather as the leader of a talented squad capable of achieving something special.

Speaking at a press conference, Ronaldo said, "Whether we are title contenders or not will be decided at the end of the tournament. But we have an extraordinary generation of players, and I believe this team will bring a lot of joy to Portugal."

However, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is not looking too far ahead. According to him, taking one game at a time is the key to success.

"We have to start well in the first match, then focus on the second and third. The path is built step by step," he added.

Interestingly, statistics and medical reports continue to support Ronaldo's claims. Ahead of the World Cup, Portugal's medical staff conducted fitness tests, and the results were remarkable. The same doctor who examined Ronaldo when he made his Portugal debut in 2003 was present for the latest assessment and revealed that several of the forward's physical indicators remain almost identical to what they were 23 years ago.

"That is the definition of a true athlete," the Portuguese Football Federation doctor reportedly said.

Ronaldo's incredible longevity has been built on discipline and dedication. A strict diet, carefully managed sleep routine, personalised training sessions and an uncompromising fitness regime have allowed him to maintain elite physical standards well into his forties.

The biggest challenge now lies ahead: leading Portugal to their first-ever World Cup title. Despite winning five Ballon d'Or awards and countless trophies, the World Cup remains the one major prize missing from Ronaldo's glittering cabinet.

"When things get difficult, that's when you discover who the real champions are," Ronaldo said.

While the football world continues to wonder how much longer Ronaldo can keep going, he remains determined to answer those questions in the only way he knows—by playing, scoring and proving once again that time still hasn't caught up with him.
