Fumbling India Put Up Brave Fight but Fall 0-4 to Brazil
While the 137th-ranked Blue Tigers went pace for pace with the South American giants for large stretches, defensive frailty and fumbles by goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu cost them dearly.

Xtra Time Newsdesk— A spirited but ultimately mismatched Indian men's national football team fell 0-4 to a clinical Brazil side, despite a performance that flashed plenty of promise. While the 137th-ranked Blue Tigers went pace for pace with the South American giants for large stretches, defensive frailty and fumbles by goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu cost them dearly.
A Valiant Opening Half under "Khalid-Ball"
Deployed in head coach Khalid Jamil’s signature style, India weaponised long throws and rapid counter-attacks early on. The crowd roared with every interception, tackle, and long-range cross India managed. Brazil dominated early possession, with Vinícius Júnior testing the Indian backline and teenage prodigy Estêvão flashing an initial close-range miss.
India had their moments—Anirudh Thapa skied a long-range effort, and Manvir Singh broke free on a dangerous run before being expertly stopped by veteran defender Marquinhos. India bravely survived the opening 22 minutes, but the deadlock finally broke at the 29th minute. Estêvão unleashed a fierce long-range strike inside the box; Gurpreet fumbled the initial save, allowing the ball to spill in for 1-0.
Shortly after Pedro rattled the crossbar with a header, the Brazilian forward found his breakthrough in the 42nd minute. Bursting free into the box, his shot again exposed Gurpreet's positioning to make it 2-0 at halftime.
Flurry of Misses and a Late Blowout
India emerged with renewed intent in the second half. Manvir Singh forced a sharp corner save from Brazilian keeper Pedro Morisco, and substitute Ryan Williams missed a golden opportunity after a cross from Manvir left him completely clear.
Brazil capitalised on India's wasted chances. In the 58th minute, Samuelinho produced a flawless finish to make it 3-0, leaving Gurpreet with zero chance. India continued to fight, orchestrating a frantic goalmouth melee via Williams, but the Brazilian defence cleared it comfortably.
As Indian legs tired, Samuel Lino rubbed salt into the wounds in the 94th minute, burying a spectacular long-range effort to seal a 4-0 victory. Though the scoreline looks dominant, India proved they could run pace-for-pace with the world's best, letting themselves down only through clinical execution and uncharacteristic errors at the back.
