Xtra Time Web Desk: France’s star forward, Kylian Mbappe, is making headlines once again, but this time it's not just for his on-field prowess. After breaking his nose during France’s triumphant opening match against Austria, Mbappe returned to training on Thursday sporting a specially designed mask adorned with the blue, white, and red of the French tricolour.

However, the eye-catching design might not make it to the pitch. UEFA regulations stipulate that “medical equipment worn on the playing field must be of a single colour” and “must not allow the team or manufacturer to be identified.” This rule puts Mbappe’s patriotic mask in jeopardy. According to RMC Sport, France's team has prepared a range of alternate, plain masks that comply with UEFA’s guidelines. A technical meeting with UEFA officials will determine whether Mbappe can wear his preferred mask or will have to switch to a more regulation-friendly version.

Despite the setback, Mbappe remains hopeful for his participation in the upcoming match against the Netherlands in Leipzig. Head coach Didier Deschamps confirmed the positive progression of Mbappe’s recovery: “Everything is going in the right direction after this major shock with the consequences. Yesterday he went out, he did a little activity. This will also be the case this evening. Things are moving in the right direction to ensure that he is available tomorrow.”

While immediate surgery has been ruled out, the French team continues to monitor Mbappe’s condition closely. With a strong position in Group D following their victory over Austria, France can afford to be cautious. Mbappe might be rested for the match against the Netherlands to ensure his full recovery for the later stages of the tournament.

Fans and teammates alike are eager to see if Mbappe will make his return to the pitch, potentially under the watchful eyes of UEFA, donning a mask that symbolizes both his resilience and national pride.
