Xtra Time Web Desk : The much awaited and anticipated FIFA World Cup 2022 draw took place in Qatar on Friday. The segregation of 8 groups consisting of 32 teams saw some great football playing nations bundle out with some of the smaller nations in terms of achievements.

And India captain Sunil Chhetri on Friday opened up on his thoughts on the above World Cup draw and said that he would be rooting for Asian Teams in the upcoming mega footballing event.

In an interview with Boria Majumdar on Rev Sportz, Chhetri said, “It was an interesting draw. And to know exactly now the groups is so interesting. I think Portugal, Uruguay, South Korea and Ghana looks a very strong group. I’m only speaking this because most of the times we fans have the ascendancy of find out what the group of death might be or is. And also by past experiences we know most of the times, we also get it wrong. Because it is such a closely fought tournament. And now in this present era when the gap between a big name team and a not so big name team is very very narrow. Because you can’t bet that you know in the biggest stage one team is going to beat the another with upmost certainty. So that’s why the World Cup is so interesting,”

Talking about who the Bengaluru FC captain would support in the FIFA World Cup, the record International goal scorer for said, “As an Asian, I’m rooting for all the Asian teams. I just hope they do really well. I still remember the game Japan played against Belgium, where they were 2-0 up. And unfortunately they lost the game. But performances like that is what I’m going to be looking forward to and anticipating as an Asian. And I wish all the Asian countries in the World Cup all the very best.”
