FIFA 2022 World Cup: Brazil thrash Uruguay 4-1 to consolidate position on top in Latin American Qualifiers

Xtra Time Web Desk: Brazil consolidated its position on top of the Latin American leg of FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifiers with a convincing 4-1 win over Uruguay. Raphinha scored a brace (18” & 58”) while Neymar (10”) and Gabriel Barbosa (83”) were also on target. Luis Suarez reduced the margin for his team in the 77th minute. It was the 10th win in 11 qualifying matches for Brazil and they are now on 31 points.

The Brazilians thoroughly outclassed their opponents with the skill, speed and fluidity. The hosts found itself 2-0 up after 18 minutes. Neymar latched onto a floated ball over the top into the box. He worked his magic and found a seam between the defenders on the goal line to give his side the lead in the 10th minute.

Raphinha extended the lead for Brazil in the 18 th minute with a simple putback at the far post. He was again on target in the 58th minute after getting a pass from Neymar.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez pulled a goal back on a set piece to make it 3-1, only for Brazil substitute Gabriel Barbosa to get his goal on a delightful service from Neymar, who placed the ball on his head though a VAR check was needed to verify it wasn’t offside.
