Exclusive: East Bengal brings Ghanian striker for trials next week

Kolkata: East Bengal team management is desperate for a third foreigner (striker). So after Wedson’s unavailability in the CFL, they had called Adelaja for trials and he too could not impress the British coach Trevor Morgan.

Former East Bengal Ghanian striker Abel Hammond is sending Richard Mensah to East Bengal for trials. He will be arriving in the city next week with his agent Godson and Hammond will join them after two weeks.

The 21-year old striker Richard is a prolific goal scorer with superb dribbling skills. His ability to use both feet makes very quick on the ball .He is also a good passer of the ball and has good vision for incisive through balls. His physical presence and height gives him a good aerial advantage as well as the stamina to play as a soloist upfront. He is equally creative and quick on the break as he is confident too. He is tactically gifted as well as he can also play on the wings.

Richard has been consecutive top scorer in the Ghana 1st Div league, 2nd Div league as well as Elite Cup and FA Cup in Ghana. He has scored a total of 48 goals from 63 appearances in all competitions in Ghana and has represented the national team in the U-16 level.

Richard is the first player to score a hattrick in the Elite Cup and has won the Golden boot Award for D’International FC for the highest no.of goals in a season. He has been the top scorer in the Juvenal league too for Al- Yankees F.C with 11 goals from 12 matches.

Abel Hammond said, “He will be coming to Kolkata as he had some visa issues earlier which is sorted out now. He will be on trials as told by the officials and coach.”
