Xtra Time Web Desk: Mohun Bagan Super Giant cruised into the semi-finals of Durand Cup 2023 with a convincing 3-1 win against Mumbai City FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Sunday. Jason Cummings (9’), Manvir Singh (30’) and Anwar Ali (63’) were on target for the Mariners while Diaz scored the only goal for the Islanders.
Mohun Bagan SG took the lead as early as 9th minute from a spot kick after Jason Cummings was tripped inside the box by Phurba Lachenpa. The Australian made no mistake from the spot to give the home side an early lead.
Mumbai City FC equalized through Diaz in the 28th minute. Greg Stewart and Alberto Noguera played a brilliant one-two to get in behind as the latter’s pass across the goalmouth was met gleefully by Diaz.
Juan Ferrando’s side restored the lead couple of minutes later. Hugo Boumos cross from the left was perfectly headed home by a charging Manvir Singh.
Mohun Bagan did manage to double their lead in the 63rd minute. A cross from Ashique Kuruniyan found an unmarked Anwar Ali who made no mistake heading the ball at the back of the net.
