Day 1, 1st Test, ENG vs IND: Bumrah, Shami wreck havoc as England bowled out for 183

Xtra Time Web Desk: An inspired bowling from Indian fast bowling pair Jasprit Bumrah (4/46) and Mohammed Shami (3/28) saw England getting bowled out for only 183 runs on Day 1 of the first test match at Trent Bridge on Wednesday. England captain Joe Root was the highest scorer with 64 runs.

Having reached tea at 138 for four, England lost their remaining six wickets for just 45 runs in the day’s third and final session. England captain Joe Root made 64 off 108 balls, even as the others failed miserably to stand up to the Indian pace bowling attack.

England scored 77 runs in 25.2 overs bowled in the afternoon session for the loss of two wickets, afternoon session for the loss of two wickets, after scoring 61 in the first session.

India went in with four seamers with both Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur getting a nod. Veteran Ishant Sharma was not picked along with Ravichandran Ashwin. Ravindra Jadeja is the lone specialist spinner. KL Rahul as expected got a chance in place of opener Mayank Agarwal.

For England both spinners Jack Leach and Dom Bess was not included in the playing XI. The hosts also went in with a four prong fast bowling attack in the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson and Sam Curran.

India at Stumps on Day 1 are 21/0 with both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul batting on 9 runs each.
