India Women strengthened their confidence ahead of a crucial encounter against Australia by defeating Bangladesh Women by five wickets in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.

Batting first on Thursday, Bangladesh posted 136/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Juwairiya Ferdous top-scored with 33 runs, while captain Nigar Sultana contributed 32. Despite their efforts, Bangladesh kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to build substantial partnerships.

For India, Shree Charani claimed 2 wickets for 21 runs, while Radha Yadav was the standout bowler with figures of 3 for 28.

In reply, India suffered an early setback when Smriti Mandhana departed cheaply. However, Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues guided the team comfortably towards the target. Shafali played a brilliant innings of 53 runs off 34 balls, while Jemimah added a quick 26 from just 15 deliveries.

Bangladesh's Ritu Moni picked up two wickets, but it was not enough to stop India, who chased down the target in just 16.5 overs.

The victory keeps India in contention, but a stern challenge awaits them next. Mandhana and her teammates now face a must-win match against Australia to keep their campaign on track.
