India Fall Short at Lord's Despite Spirited Chase; England Seal ODI Series 2-1

Despite a valiant fight at Lord's, India suffered a 27-run defeat as England clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1.

England produced a sensational batting display, posting their highest-ever ODI total at Lord's. Powered by Ben Duckett's magnificent century and valuable contributions from Jacob Bethell, Joe Root, and Jos Buttler, the hosts piled up 387/3 in 50 overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 388, India got off to an excellent start thanks to Rohit Sharma's brilliant century and strong support from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. However, after Rohit's dismissal, India lost wickets in quick succession and eventually fell short.

England's openers dominated the Indian bowling attack from the outset. Duckett smashed 141, while Bethell contributed 91, with the pair adding 192 runs for the opening wicket. Joe Root then continued the momentum with 74, sharing a 101-run partnership for the second wicket. Jos Buttler provided the finishing touches with a blistering 41 off just 13 balls, helping England finish on 387/3.

In reply, India began their chase in impressive fashion. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stitched together a 147-run opening stand before Gill departed for 77. Rohit, meanwhile, returned to top form with a superb 138, becoming the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord's, the Home of Cricket.

Virat Kohli also impressed, scoring 74, his first ODI half-century at Lord's. However, once Rohit and Kohli were dismissed, India's middle and lower order failed to keep up with the required rate. The visitors were eventually restricted to 360/7, handing England a 27-run victory.

Sam Curran was England's standout bowler, claiming four wickets to turn the game decisively in the hosts' favour and secure the series win.
