Bundesliga: Robert Lewandowski reaches a special milestone

XtraTime Web Desk: Robert Lewandowski achieved a unique milestone in the history of Bundesliga. The Polish striker became the first foreign player to score 33 goals in a single season in Bundesliga. Lewandowski achieved the milestone by scoring a brace against Freiburg on Saturday as Bayern Munich secured their 15th win in the row. The score was 3-1 in favour of Bavarians.

Lewandowski can still add to his tally on the final match day but is unlikely to match Gerd Mueller’s Bundesliga record of 40 goals in a season set in 1972. The previous best mark by a foreign player was 31 goals scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 2016-17 season.

Lewandowski’s latest feat keeps him in line to win the European Golden Shoe award ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ciro Immobile, and is just one of a number of records he has established in 2019/20. The Polish player can still add to his tally as Bayern will be facing Bayer Leverkusen in German Cup final on July 04. The Bundesliga champions will also resume their campaign in Champions League when it restarts in August.

Lewandowski now has scored 48 goals in 40 matches across competitions this season.
