Brilliant 146 from Rishabh Pant bails India out of trouble on Day 1 of Edgbaston test

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s dashing wicket keeper batter Rishabh Pant once again produced a brilliant hundred (146 runs off 11 balls) to bail India out of deep trouble on day 1 of the rescheduled fifth test match against England at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground on Saturday. Pant’s counter-attacking hundred off just 89 balls rattled the England bowlers after they were on top, getting rid off the Indian top order for under 100 runs.

With India reeling at 98 for five, Pant and Ravindra Jadeja stitched an unbeaten partnership for the sixth wicket and took India past the 200-run mark. This was the fastest century by an Indian wicketkeeper in Tests. This was Rishabh Pant’s second Test century in England, and his fourth one away from home. Overall it was his fifth test ton in 31 tests. He was eventually dismissed for 146 off just 111 deliveries by Joe Root.

Pant’s partnership of 222 runs with Ravindra Jadeja, who hit a half-century of his own, came at a crucial juncture, with James Anderson and Matthew Potts sharing five wickets between them to leave India reeling at 98/5.
