Xtra Time Web Desk: Cricket Australia has named 15-member squad for the five match T20I series against India which will follow immediately after the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. As many as 8 players are in the T20 squad who are also part of the Australian World Cup side. Mathew Wade has been named as the captain of the Australian T20 side.

The pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, who are a part of the ongoing World Cup squad, have been rested and will return to Australia, along with the all-round duo of Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green, in order to prepare for the upcoming Test summer. Ashton Agar, who is still recovering from his calf injury, was not considered for selection.

Star duo Steve Smith and David Warner, who had missed the South Africa tour, have returned to the T20 squad

Speaking on the squad, George Bailey, chair of the selection panel, said: “It’s an experienced squad with a mixture of players who have had their first opportunity on the international stage and that we hope will continue to develop into important players in our T20 group.

“Matthew has captained the team previously, is a leader in the group and we look forward to him taking the reins for this series. Like Mitch Marsh in the South Africa series, this is another great opportunity to further deepen our international leadership experience and depth.

“It’s always a great challenge to take on India on their home soil. Most of the squad have extensive experience in playing in India, including eight members of the current ODI World Cup squad, alongside Tanveer Sangha who is currently a travelling reserve.”
