Asian Games 2023: India women’s shooting team clinches first medal, win silver in 10m air rifle

Xtra Time Web Desk: India made an impressive start to their medal campaign in shooting at the Hangzhou Asian Games, securing a team silver in the women’s 10m air rifle event. The trio of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey showcased their exceptional skills, accumulating a total score of 1886.0. However, it was China who set the bar even higher by breaking the Asian record with an astounding score of 1896.6, securing the gold.

Mehuli Ghosh and Ramita Jindal, both exceptional talents, also secured spots in the final of the women’s 10m air rifle event, scheduled for 9.15 AM on the same day. Ramita, at just 19 years of age, demonstrated her potential by finishing second in qualification with a score of 631.9, while Mehuli secured the fourth spot with a score of 630.8.

Notably, at the ISSF World Championships in Baku just last month, the Indian women’s 10m air rifle team, including Mehuli, Ramita, and Tillotama Sen, clinched the gold medal, with China settling for silver. These early successes highlight India’s prowess in shooting sports and set a promising tone for their performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
