Internet Desk: I League winning Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood was suspended on Friday for showing dissent against the decision of the referee in a recent AFC Cup match.  The British coach was handed a fine of US $ 5000 along with a four match suspension. The suspension meant Westwood will not be available for Bengaluru FC’s next AFC Cup tie against Kitchee on May 25, 2016. The I League champions got the better of Lao Toyota winning the match by 2-1 margin.

Westwood was served a show cause notice by Asian Football Confederation for using abusive language during the AFC Cup match between Bengaluru FC and Lao Toyota FC in Bengaluru on April 27, 2016. The former Manchester United product was sent-off for showing dissent as he felt the Lao outfit took a free-kick by at least 10 yards ahead. He expressed his dissent by uttering abusive language aimed at the match officials.

This was not the first time that Westwood got involved in such an incident. He was earlier reprimanded by the match officials during an I League match against East Bengal at Barasat stadium. He also got himself dragged into controversy for arguing with Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil during an I League match in Bengaluru.
