AIFF President seeks 10-day delay for ISL kickoff due to clash with Asian Games

Xtra Time Web Desk : The upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) is set to commence on September 21, but there’s a request to delay it by 10 days from All India Football Federation (AIFF) President Kalyan Chaubey. Now, you might wonder why.

The Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, will begin its football competition on September 19. Just two days later, the ISL is scheduled to start. Due to the fact that the Asian Games are not under the jurisdiction of FIFA international window, clubs are not obligated to release their players. This poses uncertainty for the Indian national football team’s participation in the Asian Games.

In light of these circumstances, AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey has stated that he will hold discussions with Football Sports Development Limited, the organizers of the ISL, to potentially postpone the start of the ISL’s tenth edition to October.

Chaubey remarked, “It will be beneficial for everyone, and it will require cooperation from all parties. Our country will also showcase its full strength at the Asian Games, and afterward, the clubs can participate in the league at full strength. Players can also take responsibility for representing their national team in the absence of FIFA’s international window.”
