Ahmedabad gears up for Olympic 2036 bid

Xtra Time Web Desk: Ahmedabad is gearing up for its bid to host the 2036 Olympics, as five grand stadiums receive approval from the state government. The proposed SVP Sports enclave, situated near the world’s largest cricket stadium, will house impressive facilities, including a 50,000-capacity football stadium, two indoor arenas with capacities of 18,000 and 10,000, a 12,000-capacity Aquatics centre, and a 10,000-capacity Tennis centre. The enclave will also feature a vast 350-acre Great Riverfront.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently declared that if India secures the hosting rights for the 2036 Olympic Games, the event will be held in Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel Complex. The government has allocated Rs 4,600 crore for the Sardar Patel Sports Complex and an additional Rs 600 crore for the Navrangpura Sports Complex within Ahmedabad city. Construction is set to commence in October 2024, with completion expected by October 2027.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously announced India’s intention to bid for the 2036 Olympics in Mumbai. The state government of Gujarat is collaborating with reputable companies to develop the necessary sports infrastructure for this global event. During the inauguration of the Parliament Sports Competition in Gandhinagar, Amit Shah emphasized the importance of promoting sportsmanship and the spirit of fair play, echoing Prime Minister Modi’s call to MPs to encourage sports in their respective areas.
