Mithali Raj sets world record in women’s ODI cricket

Internet Desk: India skipper Mithali Raj wrote her name in the record books again on Wednesday after she became the all-time top run-scorer in the history of women’s ODI cricket.

Mithali, who is in England right now to play the ICC Women’s World Cup, surpassed Charlotte Edwards (5992) after she reached her 34th run against Australia in Bristol today. She reached to the feat on her 183rd ODI, by taking 164 innings, which is 16 lesser than Charlotte.

She got out on 69 after scoring her 49th half-century in the ODI format. Earlier, Mithali made her debut for the national team in June 1999 against Ireland, where she scored a brilliant century. She has scored 6,028 runs in her career with an average of over 51. She also set a record few days back by scoring seven consecutive half-centuries. Her streak came to an end when she got out on 46 against the Windies at Taunton in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup.

Fans and fellow cricketers took to Twitter to congratulate her on the milestone.
