India tour of England: One Indian cricketer tested positive for COVID-19 in England, kept in isolation

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a huge concern for Team India ahead of the five match test series against England next month, an Indian cricketer has tested positive for the noble coronavirus pandemic. It is not known who is the cricketer but as per multiple reports the concerned player has been asked to isolate at a relative’s place in London.

It was feared as several players during the course of the three weeks break was seen at the Wembley stadium, Wimbledon and other crowded places in London. The Indian cricketers were given a break after the World Test Championship final at Southampton.

The Indian team is supposed to travel to Durham on Thursday afternoon and will now do so without the cricketer.  The Indian team will be having a camp ahead of the five match test series against England. They will also play a three day warm up game against a County Championship XI from July 20-22. If there are multiple cases of infection in the side, it will be known by the headcount of players who show up for the camp.

The National Health Service in England, which has been conducting the tests on the Indian players, will be disclosing the name of the cricketer soon. This player was seen at crowded places during this three-week break post WTC final.

The Indian players are being tested and are also in for more tests during the camp in Durham. The entire squad members were vaccinated (second dose of Covishield) on July 7 & 9 in London. The first round of testing was carried on last Saturday (July 10). There will be another test done on Wednesday (July 14)

UK has seen a surge in the COVID-19 cases of late. The England men’s national team had to undergo quarantine after seven members (including 4 cricketers) of the squad tested positive recently. They had to isolate from the team and could not take the field in the recently held ODI series against England.
