28 years Later a Parsi selected in Indian National cricket team

Board of Control for Cricket in India today announced Indian national Team for the upcoming World test championship final to be played in Southampton vs New Zealand and England tour.

When it comes to Indian cricket specially senior level in both Men and Women there are few Parsi cricketeres who have represented their national side. Arzan Nagwaswalla, who is selected for the upcoming tour as standby for Indian senior Cricket team is a Parsi who has made it to the final squad after 28 years.

Incidentally in Mens’ cricket Farokh Engineer who was a brilliant batsman cum fielder played his final Test for India in 1975. In women’s cricket Diana Edulji’s played her last game in July 1993.

When Farokh Engineer played his last game for India ,Arzan Nagwaswalla was not even born.23-year-old left-arm medium pacer from Gujrat Arzan was named as a standby for India’s trip to the England.

He was born in village of Nargal, Gujrat. He learnt the basic of cricket from his elder brother, Vispi. Arzan was first selected in the Gujrat side in the 2018-19 season. He came to limelight with a five-wicket haul against Mumbai at the Wankhede . In the 2019-20 season of the Ranji Trophy, he got 41 wickets. He had a successful outing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Gujarat where he claimed 19 wickets which many believed earned him a spot in the Indian side.
