2018 FIFA WC: Swedish midfielder Jimmy Durmaz abused racially in his Instagram account

XtraTime Web Desk: Swedish midfielder Jimmy Durmaz gave away a foul in the dying minutes of the match. Toni Kross scored the winning goal for Germany. After the match Durmuz abused racially in his Instagram account. As someone wrote, “Go back to your homeland. You are not Swedish.”Police started the investigation.

The Swedish FA have reported the incident to cops but Toulouse star Durmaz played down the taunts, insisting they did not faze him.

He said: “I always have hate, they can keep hate. It’s no danger. There is nothing I care about. I stand proud and represent my country.”

Team-mate John Guidetti jumped to his pal’s defence.

He said: “He ran and fought the whole game. It’s unlucky.

“It’s completely idiotic to subject him to hate for that.”

And Gustav Svennson spoke out in Durmaz’s defence saying there will be no blame game within the Sweden camp for what happened.

Svennson said: “There are incredibly little details that determine that. He definitely will not get any crap for it. He tries to win the ball, sometimes you do it, sometimes not.”

Sweden had looked like securing a draw until Kroos struck late into injury time.

Tensions boiled over at the final whistle with both teams clashing.

Sweden’s head coach Janne Andersson had a furious bust-up with Germany ‘business manager’ Oliver Bierhoff.

Andersson said: “Some of the group leaders of their team celebrated by running in our direction, rubbing it into our faces by making gestures.

“That really got me annoyed and angry. We had fought it out for 90 minutes and at the end you should shake hands. I was very angry with that.”
