XtraTime Web Desk: Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has made his father legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel proud today as he almost took his side to the quarterfinals. Despite of losing the pre-quarterfinals against Croatia, Schmeichel made three crucial saves, one during the extra time and two during the penalty shootouts.

The Croats had a very late penalty in extra time, and Luka Modric stepped up to take it – and Kasper managed to save it – and he saved it well.

The goalie couldn’t keep Modric’s second attempt in the shootout from finding the back of the net, despite his leg nearly catching the ball, but as many people pointed out, Modric wouldn’t have even had a chance to take a second penalty had Kasper not saved the first one.

The shootout was magnificent, with Danijel Subasic also a brilliant penalty stopper, and the shootout was all about the keepers, not the takers.

Both made huge saves, but it was just one step too far for Denmark, with Ivan Rakitic putting Croatia through with the fifth penalty, after Subasic saved the Denmark one before it.

People were stunned with both keepers, but after Kasper saved two in the shootout and one in extra time, people were heartbroken for him.
