Shami, Ashwin to be rested for ODI’s against Sri Lanka?

Debasis Sen, Pallekele: With an eye to keep the bowling unit fresh for the grueling season ahead the selectors are thinking about resting a few cricketers, mainly the bowlers for the forthcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bowlers like Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin and Rabindra Jadeja are likely to be rested for the forthcoming ODI series. It is not yet confirmed whether Indian captain Virat Kohli will also be rested for the ODI series or not. Word is that the skipper himself hasn’t asked for rest during the ODI series and is keen to play on.

The selectors are going to pick the squad on August 13 at Pallekele via a conference call. MSK Prasad, the chairman of the selection committee will be joined here by Sarandeep Singh. Debang Gandhi, who is now in South Africa with the A team will be taken on a conference call.

The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel are likely to be named in the squad. In fact the later has also been included in the Indian squad for the third test against Sri Lanka, starting on Saturday. The left arm spinner from Gujarat has replaced Rabindra Jadeja who is serving a one match suspension by ICC.

Krunal Pandya could be the surprise inclusion in the squad along with Jasprit Bumrah who is a certainty.

Team India faces a hectic schedule in the season ahead where they play 23 matches starting with the ODI series against Australia till the series against Sri Lanka during end of December.

Virat Kohli and his team will next travel to South Africa later this year to take part in a full series.
