Rio 2016: Indian men’s doubles hope ends after Leander-Bopanna lost

Internet Desk: India’s hope of a Gold Medal from Olympics tennis men’s doubles ended as legendary tennis player Leander Paes pairing Rohan Bopanna lost to Polish pair of Lukasz Kubot and Marcin Matkowski in their first round match. This ended the dream of Leander of winning a Gold Medal in Olympics.
Today the Indian pair started their match in a good pace. They continued levelling the sets from the beginning of the match. In the first set they came from behind to have a lead of 3-2 at one time. However, they lost the set by 6-4.
In the second set also they chased the Polish pair for tough battle. At the initial stage of the second set they continued levelling the sets. At first they made 3-3 and after that 5-5 too. Finally they lost to Polish pair by 7-6.
After this lose the controversy regarding Indian tennis stars further fumed. Prior to the Games controversy raised around Leander and Bopanna that they are not willing to pair each other. Rather Bopanna expressed his wish to pair with another Indian young star.
Bopanna still has his hope to win a Medal as he will pair with Sania Mirza in the mixed doubles. Tonight Sania will play in the women’s doubles pairing Prarthana Thombare.
