Internet Desk: Virat Kohli slammed his sixth double hundred in Test cricket on Sunday in the ongoing third test match against Sri Lanka at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Kohli has now overtaken West Indies legend Brian Lara’s record as the captain with most double tons in the longest format.
Kohli brought up the milestone with a pull towards deep mid-wicket off Lakmal in the 107th over of the Indian innings. He played 238 balls to reach his sixth double hundreds, spending 349 minutes at the crease. His 200 included 20 boundaries.
It was also the second double ton in the series for Kohli after his 213 runs in Nagpur.
Virat had scored double centuries in four successive Test series. He started with a 200 against West Indies in Antigua and then scored 211 against New Zealand in Indore back in October last year.
But that was just the start of his dominance at home as he continued his form against England in Wankhede with a majestic 235 and then took Bangladesh bowlers to the cleaners for a relatively quick-fire 204 at Hyderabad.
Kohli has now equalled the most hundreds by an Indian batsman. Legendary Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag had scored six double hundreds each. The Indian captain is in the seventh spot in the list of batsman with most double hundreds in test cricket.
Don Bradman heads the table with 12 double centuries followed by Kumar Sangakkara (11), Brian Lara (9), Wally Hammond (7) and Mahela Jayawerdene (7)
