Kolkata: On the 70th Independence Day, CAB President Sourav Ganguly hoisted the National Flag at CAB today and this is the first time that the former India captain Sourav Ganguly hoisted the National Flag as an administrator.

Earlier during his playing days, he has sung the National Anthem before matches on Indian soil as well as overseas and hoisted the National flag but that was all as a player. During the flag hoisting ceremony, Sourav was present along with all the other CAB officials in the likes of two joint Secretaries Avishek Dalmiya and Subir Ganguly as well as treasurer Biswarup Dey.

After the flag hoisting ceremony, Sourav was quoted as saying, “This is a great feeling to hoist the National Flag and I feel I am fortunate on that. During my playing days as captain, when I used to sing the National Anthem before matches, I felt that God has gifted me this opportunity and now I have got the opportunity to do it as an administrator. So it feels nice.”

Regarding India’s proud lady gymnast Dipa Karmakar who just failed by a margin to get one medal for India yesterday by 0.15m, Sourav commented, “She has already made the nation proud. Its fortunate that she missed out on the bronze by a whisker. Hope she does well in the future and I pray for her.”
