Mental fatigue is the reason why Ishan Kishan opted out of test series against Proteas | SAvsIND

Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan has recently withdrawn himself from the upcoming test series against South Africa, citing personal reasons. Reports now reveal that the 25-year-old opted out due to mental fatigue from consistent travel with the team over the last 12 months. Kishan has been part of the Indian squad across all formats since January. Despite being in the squad, opportunity to play arrived only when someone is injured.

Post IPL 2023 with Mumbai Indians, Ishan was part of the Indian squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia in England, followed by the West Indies tour, Asia Cup, and ODIs against Australia. Kishan played initially in the ODI World Cup but returned to the bench upon the return of Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. He played the first three games in the T20I series against Australia before being rested for the final two. Despite being part of the T20I squad against South Africa, he was benched in favour of Jitesh Sharma.

Facing a continuous cricketing schedule, Ishan Kishan requested BCCI for a break due to mental fatigue, emphasizing the toll of non-stop cricketing commitments on players. As a result KS Bharat was included as the back-up wicketkeeper for the upcoming two match test series against South Africa.
