Xtra Time Web Desk : Indian hockey on Sunday lost one of it’s biggest pillars in Ashim Ganguly as the legendary player-coach passed away due to heart attack. The former Bengal Hockey player was an example for youngsters due to his disciplined life and dedication towards hockey.

Being a coach in Kolkata’s Entally club, the legendary Ashim Ganguly was the reason behind putting forward many of Bengal’s bright hockey prospects into the mainstream through his guidance and experience. He also had certain regrets about not being able to make the youngsters of Bengal play on AstroTurf.

And speaking about Ashim Ganguly’s demise, legendary hockey player Gurbux Singh in an interview with Xtra Time said, “He was such a devoted person. It was very rare to find a person like him in the country who was so dedicated towards Hockey. He dedicated the whole of his life towards Hockey. And especially after leaving the game, the number of players he has made from his club Entally, as a coach is commendable. He was a very close friend of mine. We had a talk only a couple of days ago. For Bengal’s hockey, especially for it’s youngsters this is an incomparable loss,”

Speaking about memories with Ashim Ganguly, legendary Gurbux Singh added, “He was there in Air Force before and then we played together. He was such a devoted man that he never talked about anything apart from hockey. When the Indian Hockey team played at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, he called me up during the match days to discuss about what was going to happen in the match. I’ve lost a very close friend of mine. Bengal has suffered a huge loss today.”
