“Kuch toh log kahenge… ”: Yuvraj Singh backs Rohit and Virat to be in T20I side

Xtra Time Web Desk: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s inclusion in India’s T20I squad against Afghanistan sparked debate, as they hadn’t played in the format since November 2022, prioritizing ODIs with the World Cup at home. The decision divided fans and experts, with some viewing it as a backward step. However, former cricketer Yuvraj Singh supports their return, citing the T20 World Cup in 2024 in six months’ time. The contrasting opinions highlight the ongoing discussions about team composition and strategies as India prepares for the upcoming global T20 tournament.

“Kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna,” Yuvraj replied to a question from a journalist during an event in Kolkata on Saturday, January 14.

He added, “It’s because they play all the three formats, they are back after 14 months. You have to manage your workload if you play the three formats. It’s a question for the selectors.”

The former World Cup winning cricketer hailed Rohit Sharma as the captain of Indian team across formats. According to Yuvraj, “Rohit has been a great captain, he’s got five IPL trophies, he took us to the (World Cup) final. He has been one of our great captains of IPL and India. We have to manage his workload.”

On being asked who among Rohit and Hardik Pandya should lead the T20I side, Yuvraj said, “I don’t know what’s the situation with Hardik’s fitness at the moment. That is the selectors’ call.”

Meanwhile, Hardik is all set to lead Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL season. The Gujarat Titans captain was traded to MI in an all-cash deal which made headlines.

On being asked if there will be any ego clash between the two-star players, Yuvraj said, “When players play together these things happen. If they have an issue they should definitely sit and talk about it.”

Yuvraj added, “Whenever you are playing for your country, your priority is to put everything aside and give your 100 percent in the park. They both are professionals, if they have any issue, they will put it aside and give 100 percent for the country.”
