Kolkata: After almost 13 years of the controversial e-mail leak by Greg Chappell, former India opener Virender Sehwag broke his silence. The Nawab of Nazafgarh in a chat show on cricket in Kolkata on Friday said, “ I used to take rest while fielding during the Test matches. I had a very good relation with the umpires, so I told them that I need a break and they asked me how long? I said minimum five overs as I have bad stomach and they said ok. I went in to tell Greg Chappell that my stomach was upset. After that I saw Greg Chappell was writing in his e-mail and I sat beside him. He was writing something to BCCI, then I gave attention to it and read that it was about Dada, then I went to the field and told about the letter to Dada.”
He further added, ”I didn’t say what he was writing but I said Dada that he is writing something to BCCI which is very serious and you must talked to BCCI about this,”.
It is no secret that Indian cricketers like Ganguly, Sehwag, Harbhajan, Tendulkar were no fans of their former Australian coach. All of them have been critical of the Australian’s coaching style during his term with Team India. The period of Greg Chappell‘s coaching has been one of the most controversial ones in the history of Indian cricket. India’s coach Greg Chappell was locked in a power struggle with the then Indian captain Sourav Ganguly after complaining of his disruptive influence in a leaked report to the Indian Board. The e-mail leak caused a rift between the two with the left hander eventually losing his captaincy.
