Johnson heaps lavish praise on Bumrah

Debasis Sen, Adelaide: Jasprit Bumrah on Saturday received lavish praises from his former Mumbai Indians teammate Mitchell Johnson. Johnson, who is doing radio commentary for the ensuing series, spoke highly of Bumrah.

“I saw him (Bumrah) bowling with the new ball. I think Bumrah has to learn to bowl in all conditions with different types of balls. That will be a real good challenge for him. Looking back at my own career when I started, I played one day cricket before playing tests. Your role changes over the time. I came into the Australian team bowling as the first change. I was not aggressive when I started but with the passage of time I learnt the art. So, I thought the way he (Bumrah) bowled with the second new ball yesterday was spot on. He got pace and little bit of that variation and he is still learning.

Johnson was recently involved with the country’s next generation of stars at the Under-19 Male National Championships in Adelaide. He worked alongside CA XI coach Ryan Harris and his assistant Chris Rogers – who are both High Performance coaches at CA – and said he enjoyed the experience.

Commenting about the fast bowling talent, Johnson feel, “I had a little bit to deal with the U’19 championship that’s going on at the moment. Ryan Harris and Chris Rogers have been working with CA XI. I definitely had seen some quicks around, bowling to really good pace. I was always worried about until I went and saw these young talents. Victoria got a couple of really talented quicks. It’s good that the cricket board is trying and getting the experienced fast bowlers involved in nurturing the young talents.”
