Xtra Time Web Desk: RCB coach Andy Flower commended Virat Kohli’s stellar performance, labelling him as a top contender for the Indian selectors’ consideration for the T20 World Cup squad. Kohli’s century against RR, albeit achieved at a slower pace, showcased his batting prowess as he amassed 113 runs off 72 balls, contributing significantly to RCB’s total of 183 runs in 20 overs.

Despite RCB’s struggles, Kohli leads the run charts this season with 316 runs from 5 matches. Flower praised Kohli’s innings as classy and delightful during the post-match press conference. Regarding India’s T20 World Cup selection, Flower expressed uncertainty but emphasized Kohli’s position as one of the premier talents available for the tournament in June.

“Virat Kohli is a class act, and that was a classy innings that he scored, that he had today. And it was really beautiful to watch, actually.”

“I wouldn’t really comment on Indian selection. I don’t know what they’re thinking. They’ve got so much talent and class to choose from, you know, they’ve got an abundance of riches. And he’s right at the top of that abundance,” said Flower.

Should have got more than 200: Flower

The RCB coach was critical about the batting performance from the side as he felt they failed to use the base set by Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis. Flower felt they started off well with the ball but the last over of powerplay cost them momentum.

“I thought we were a little light, to be honest on the run’s front. I thought given the base that we had. So, if you look at about the 12th over, I think we’re 107 for no wicket. I think we should have got upwards of 200 after that after being in that position on a good pitch. But we started well with the ball. You know, Topley and Yash, were excellent and Siraj and then the last over of powerplay cost us a bit. Cost us some serious momentum,” said Flower.
