Xtra Time Web Desk: It seems there’s some frustration within the team due to the changes brought in by their coach, Chandrakant Pandit. Who is known for his strict disciplinary approach. The overseas players like David Weise, who have experience playing in various leagues around the world, might not appreciate being micromanaged in terms of their behaviour, attire, and routines.

While some players, like the one quoted, might be more accommodating to these changes, there are others who are less receptive. This could potentially lead to tensions within the team, as different players have varying levels of comfort with the coach’s methods.

Despite these challenges, the Kolkata Knight Riders managed to start their campaign on a positive note, securing a victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Key contributions from players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and the young fast bowler Harshit Rana were pivotal in their success, much to the delight of the packed crowd at Eden Gardens. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the team showed resilience and determination on the field, setting a promising tone for the remainder of the season.

Namibia all rounder David Weise says, “Certain issues were going on behind the scenes in the team. Guys weren’t happy with certain things that were going on, and a lot of the time, it was a tough changing room. A new coach was coming in and he liked to do things a certain way, and that didn’t sit well with the players.”

Guys were frustrated because a lot changed, and the coach brought in things that he thought would bring success. But as an overseas player, they sometimes don’t sit well.

“He (Chandrakant) is known in India as a fairly militant type of coach, a strict disciplinarian. The overseas guys who’ve played all over the world don’t need someone coming in and telling them how to behave what to wear and what to do. I was chill with it, but there were players more stubborn than me,” he added.

David Weise, who was bought for Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2023 auction, warmed the benches throughout the season, not getting a single game even as Kolkata persisted with Andre Russell, who was struggling for consistency, as the overseas all-rounder.
