IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings takes a big decision; decide not to play vs Rajasthan Royals on May 5

Chennai Super Kings management have decided not to take the field against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.

Xtra Time Web Desk: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has taken a huge decision as the franchise will not take the field against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday, May 5 at Feroz Shah Kotla. The development comes after CSK bowling coach Laxmipati Balaji tested positive for COVID-19. Balaji was in the dug-out as well as with the team during the last match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

As per reports, one of the CSK official has made it clear that the entire team will be undergoing 6 day quarantine and have informed BCCI that we can’t play our match against Rajasthan Royals.

This means not only CSK’s game against Rajasthan Royals will be postponed but also their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad will be under threat. CSK is suppose to play SRH on May 7th. According to the report, CSK informed the BCCI that they could step back on the field only once all players who came in contact with the two people who tested positive cleared three tests over a six day period, as per Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) of the IPL.

It is worth noting that currently Kolkata Knight Riders is also under quarantine and so is Delhi Capitals squad. Delhi played Kolkata in their last match at Ahmedabad. Mumbai Indians have also decided not to train at the Kotla ahead of Tuesday’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.  All these developments are making continuation of IPL very difficult.
