IPL 2021: Mounting pressure on BCCI as petition filed in Delhi High Court to stop IPL
Xtra Time Web Desk: More trouble for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as a petition has been filed at the Delhi High Court to stop the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) matches. The petition was filed by lawyer Karan Singh Thukral and social activist Inder Mohan Singh demanding an inquiry into why IPL 2021 is being given priority over public health. The petition also asks the centre to direct the Indian cricket board and DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association)to stop IPL 2021 immediately.
In his petition, Thukral has written, “On one side, people are dying due to a lack of hospital beds and are seen waiting in queues to cremate their loved ones, while on the other end, instead of applying resources to its optimal use, the respondent(s) has deemed it appropriate to go on and support the conduct of the IPL.”
