IPL 2020: Top 3 controversies that made headlines during half way stage

Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian Premier League and controversies go hand in hand and the ongoing IPL 2020 is no different. There were several controversies in the ongoing edition but the three that made headlines are as follows:

Short run controversy during Kings XI Punjab vs Delhi Capitals match: It has to be the biggest controversy in this edition of IPL till now as Kings XI Punjab were docked a genuine run which cost them the match against Delhi Capitals. TV replays showed square leg umpire Nitin Menon erred in calling Chris Jordan for a ‘short run’ in the third ball of the final over bowled by Kagiso Rabada. KXIP, who required 13 runs to win, ended up scoring 12 runs in the final over. Had that run been given then the match would have gone in favour of Punjab with three balls to spare. With 1 needed off the last three balls, Rabada bowled a dot in his fourth and picked two wickets in the final two deliveries to take the match into Super Over. Delhi won the contest in Super Over, inviting strong comments from KXIP owner Preity Zinta targeted at the rules laid down by BCCI.

Anushka Sharma slams Sunil Gavaskar for his ‘distasteful’ remark: Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma slammed legendary Sunil Gavaskar for taking her name after husband Virat Kohli failed in the match against KXIP, scoring just one run from 5 balls as well as dropping a couple of catches in the match. Gavaskar during his commentary stint somewhat jokingly dragged Anushka’s name saying perhaps Virat was practicing with his wife during lockdown which did not go down well with the Bollywood actress.  She expressed her angst in a post on instagram. Gavaskar had to clear his views the following day, saying it was all in good humour and he was only referring to a video which he saw on social media platforms about Virat practicing with Anushka on their roof top during lockdown as there were no options to train outdoors.

Sakshi Dhoni deletes tweet targeted towards umpires:  The ongoing IPL 2020 fell to another umpiring error during the match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings. The incident involved Tom Curran, MS Dhoni and Deepak Chahar. Curran was shocked to see the umpire give him out caught behind by a Deepak Chahar delivery. He wanted a review but his team’s allotted reviews were over. The umpires gave him out, only to call him back after TV replays. Dhoni’s wife Sakshi couldn’t believe the incident and decided to share her feelings on an Instagram story, which was later deleted. TV replays did show that the ball had not even edged the bat and gone off the thigh pad. The ball also bounced in front of Dhoni before he caught it. After being adjudged out, and leaving for the pavilion, Curran was called back to resume batting.
