Internet Desk: India skipper Virat Kohli created back to back record today after he got past star South African opener Hashim Amla in terms of scoring most runs in the current calendar year, he also outran the legendary batsmen like Ab De Villiers, Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara to create a new record of scoring 9000 ODI runs as he took fewest innings to hit this run in the 50-over format.

Kohli got to the landmark of 9000 run in the 37th over when he guided one off Grandhomme towards the third man for a four.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni had reached the milestone last year while other Indians who have done so are Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin.

Overall, Kohli, who played his 202nd match and 194th innings on Sunday, has become the 19th batsman to breach the 9000-run mark, making him the fastest to get there.

The Delhi batsman, who is playing his 40th international match of 2017, has now hit 2000 runs in the ongoing year. After scoring his first ten runs in today’s game the India skipper achieved this feat.

The second batsmanin the leading run scorers list is Hashim Amla, who has 1988 runs in 34 games.

With an astonishing average of 58.82, Kohli has already hit 8 half-centuries and 7 hundreds in the calendar year with a high score of 204.

Joe Root, Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock are the other 3 players who complete the top 5 for the year.

Kohli also became the second Indian after Sachin to have scored 2,000+ international runs in back to back calendar years. Virat’s done it in 2016, 2017 while Sachin did it in 1996, 1997 & 1998.

The India skipper has hit yet another ton against the Kiwis today to reach his 32nd ODI ton, but he would hope for a different result after the hosts lost the first game despite his brilliant ton.
