Kolkata:
World football has seen so many weird, interesting, funny stories which apparently seemed funny, but in the end, very often we found those cases to have some serious scientific reasons involved in it. The league fixtures of IFA, starting from Premier Division to the fifth division, are prepared by following the Bengali Almanac. No matter how weird it may seem, it has some dense scientific reasons though. The fixture Committee head of The IFA Mr. Sandeep Das has himself revealed that to www.xtratime.in .

The monsoon has always been a serious threat for the parental body of Bengal football, The IFA, to host and complete the leagues in due time. The heavy rain creates a lot of obstacles for the organizers to finish games at times. As the Kolkata Maidan is not too far away from the place called Babughat, the torrential rain often puts open Maidani tents like Customs, Police and even the East Bengal, Mohun Bagan grounds under water.

The IFA fixture committee head Sandeep Das was telling, “In the last couple of seasons, East Bengal played their games at Barasat and Kalyani but the other clubs play at Maidan only. The smaller clubs have budget issues. So, if we cannot finish the league at the right time, they face inconveniences to run their clubs. Mohun Bagan, East Bengal grounds too get affected by the rain. So, we follow the Bengali Almanac to ensure the dates of the league games are not on the days of Spring tide.”

Though Sandeep told, “We have been preparing the league fixtures by following the Almanac for the last 22 years. But no one has their hands on the nature and we too have seen games to get washed out in rain despite following this custom.” Though he confirmed that this is the best way to avoid problems they face during The Rainy season.
