Kolkata: On 26-08-2017, Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan announced that Haitian superstar Sony Norde would be donning the prestigious No. 10 jersey. The iconic jersey was once worn by Jose Ramirez Barreto and in the last few seasons it was worn by Katsumi Yusa who recently made a move to arch rivals East Bengal. As per reports from www.xtratime.in Sony too made it certain that he wants to fill in the shoes of the Brazilian great. In a conversation with www.xtratime.in correspondent Sabyasachi Bagchi, Barreto shared his thoughts.

“I am no one to say anything about Sony. He himself is there to prove himself and has done several times in the future. He is a different and a special player and as a result Mohun Bagan signed him again” said Barreto.

On being questioned about Sony rejecting offers from ISL clubs and joining Mohun Bagan, Barreto said,” I feel you will not get fans that are more passionate than those of Mohun Bagan. I think that my passion for the club and the fans are similar to Sony and thus he is being treated in a special way and as a result Sony has a gratitude for the club. He has a big heart and is grateful by the way he is treated in the club”.

When asked about the Haitian’s commitment for the club, the Brazilian said,“Sony has taken a bigger step and he understands that he has to play a very important role to play for the Mariners. He has taken a big decision and he wants to be here.”

No matter Sony wears the Jersey No. 10, he will always have to live up to its name which was previously done by Barreto. It was the commitment and passion for the club which made Barreto what he is for the fans now. “Benchmarks can always be crossed. Tomorrow he can cross that mark and it will not be a problem for him to do so. I believe Sony has a lot of qualities and already has his place in the heart of Bagan fans” concluded Barreto when he was asked about whether Sony could cross the benchmark which has been set by Barreto himself.
