Internet Desk: Star Indian shuttler and Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu is just one step away to create history as she reached the final of the World Badminton Championships with a straight game win over World No 10 Chen Yufei 21-13, 21-10 in women’s singles division at Glasgow on Saturday. The 22-year-old Sindhu will now face Nozomi Okuhara of Japan who has beaten Saina Nehwal in the semi final clash. In six meetings with Okuhara, Sindhu’s head to head record is 3-3. If Sindhu manages to clinch a win in the grand finale, she would become the first Indian woman to do so.

After her fellow countrywoman Saina Nehwal settled for a bronze medal in the tournament, all the hopes of the nation would be on PV Sindhu to bring a gold medal to India. Before Sindhu, Saina too reached the final of the World Championships back in 2015 but she lost in straight games to Spain’s Carolina Marin to whom Sindhu had los Rio Olympics final.

This will be a third medal for Sindhu in the World Championship. She had won bronze twice in the 2013 and 2014 editions.

After her win against Chen Yufei, Indian cricket team’s coach Ravi Shastri has wished her good luck for the final in social media.
