Internet Desk: MS Dhoni has been backed by yet another cricket legend, and this time it is none other than the great Kapil Dev himself. India who the first ever World Cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Dev was present in Pune to  for a corporate golf event said that he expects Dhoni to be a vital role in the team during the World T20 in 2020.

“I do not understand why so many people are on his back after a couple of average performances. Age definitely doesn’t have anything to do with it. Sachin was 38 when we won the World Cup and nobody was saying anything then,” said Kapil on the sidelines of the Krishnaptnam Port Gold Eagle championships at the Oxford Golf and Country Club.

The former Indian skipper’s recent dip in form in the shortest format of the game paved way to a lot of criticism however present captain Kohli has always backed Dhoni.

India’s first World Cup-winning captain believed there was no able replacement lined up for Dhoni as yet. “Even if he is axed from the team, whom will they get,” he wondered.

Veteran spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja are now are only featured in test matches to which Kapil Dev said, “In the Indian team, there is no such thing as seniority. Performances dictate selection and that is why Kuldeep and Chahal have kept their place in the limited overs side”.

“Hardik has the talent to become better than me and he just needs to keep playing as he is,” concluded Kapil.
